Description
This line of research has its roots in the expertise gained from decades of activity of FDUL in the field of legal cooperation, mostly through the coordination of the Instituto de Cooperação Jurídica. It also greatly benefits from the knowledge and experience of the legal, political and social realities of the Portuguese-speaking countries obtained by several of its professors and lecturers and while in residence for visiting professorships or research purposes there.
Assuming a multidisciplinary orientation, this line of research involves Constitutional Law and Political Science (sources of law, Constitutional Justice, Constitutional History, Fundamental Rights) and Administrative Law (especially, but not only, Local Government Law and Energy Law). At the same time, it concerns a significant number of legal orders – namely those of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Tomé and Príncipe, thereby constituting a privileged field for the use of Comparative Law. The interaction of these States with and within the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), an international organisation for friendship among Lusophone countries and regions, calls upon International Law as well.

Objectives:
a) To gather, systematise and update data (legal and not legal) on each of the different constitutional and administrative systems;
b) To further study the construction, transformation and evolution of the various systems, especially stimulating interdisciplinary studies, as well as Comparative Law and Legal History approaches;
c) To make publicly available scientific publications, individual or collective on Portuguese-speaking Public Law topics;
d) Conducting regular workshops and meetings among scientific experts from universities in different Lusophone countries;
e) Monitoring and encouraging the development of Masters and PhD theses in this field.
