Miguel Nogueira de Brito completed his PhD at the Instituto de Ciências Jurídico-Políticas (ICJP) of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon where he is Assistant Professor and Researcher. He was module convenor in subjects such as political science, constitutional law and fundamental rights at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is a distinguished expert in the field of administrative law and public procurement. Outside his academic duties, Miguel Nogueira de Brito is a lawyer and has occupied several positions of public relevance as an advisor to the Constitutional Court and as a member of the Conselho Superior dos Tribunais Administrativos e Fiscais. His research interests focus mainly in constitutional law, political thought and the philosophy of law, paying specific attention to the distinction between public and private law, the statutory powers of constitutional courts and the legal and philosophical foundations of private property. He is part of the research team who is currently developing the project Informal Changes in Constitutional Law in the field of constitutional law at the Centro de Investigação em Direito Público (CIDP) of the Instituto de Ciências Jurídico-Políticas (ICJP). He has published widely in his area of expertise and among his books we should highlight A Constituição Constituinte, A Justificação da Propriedade Privada numa Democracia Constitucional and As Andanças de Cândido. More recently, he has produced articles of great scientific impact on the themes of the constitutional revision, interpretation and scrutiny and also on religious freedom, human rights, the history of political ideas, such as "O Patriotismo como Civilidade", "O Momento Maquiavélico e a Constituição", "João Paulo II, os Direitos Humanos e a Sociedade Civil" and "Liberdade Religiosa, Liberdade da Igreja e Relações entre o Estado e a Igreja".
