Faculty Bio

Maria José Rangel de Mesquita is an Associate Professor at the Instituto de Ciências Jurídico-Políticas of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon where she completed her PhD. Apart from her path devoted to European Law – and in particular to the Treaty of Lisbon – she is a lawyer and holds a postgraduate diploma in Management from ISEG. She is a member of the European Institute for Traffic Law and the European Institute for Tort Law of the Austrian Academic of Sciences, where she also part of the research group devoted to “State responsibility”, which is part of the State Liability Project. She has participated in colloquiums and conferences throughout the world, producing in result some titles such as The European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights after the Treaty of Lisbon, Les valeurs-clés de l’action extérieure de l’Union Européenne à la lumière du Traité de Lisbonne or Remarques sur la ‘Valeur Ajoutée’ de l’adhésion de l’Union Européenne à la Convention Européenne des Droits de l’Homme pour  la protection des droits fondamentaux des particuliers en Europe. In Portugal, she has published several articles and books of reference such as O poder sancionatório da União e das Comunidades Europeias sobre os Estados-membros, A União Europeia após o Tratado de Lisboa and A actuação externa da União Europeia depois do Tratado de Lisboa.
